She attended Lumpkin County Schools as a student from grades K-12, and some of her fondest memories are riding her grandpa's bus to school each day in elementary school. After graduating from North Georgia College (now University of North Georgia) with her bachelor's and master's degrees, she went on to obtain her specialist degree in leadership and administration from Lincoln Memorial University. She spent twenty years at Long Branch Elementary School as a classroom teacher, instructional lead teacher, assistant principal and principal.
