Special Education Bus Monitor
Lumpkin County Schools is seeking applicants for a Special Education Bus Monitor for the 2025-2026 school year.
Job Summary:
The Special Education Bus Monitor supports the safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities to and from school and school-related activities. This role involves assisting students on and off the bus, securing wheelchairs and safety equipment, and ensuring students follow safety rules. The monitor works closely with the bus driver and school staff to provide a calm, supportive environment, responding to student needs with patience, care, and professionalism.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance
- Interact in a professional, constructive manner with all persons
- Maintain confidentiality of records, reports, information
- Work cooperatively with parents, colleagues, administrators
- Model correct use of language, oral and written
- Follow all policies and regulations set forth in the School Bus Driver’s Handbook
- Maintain orderly conduct of passengers and report unsafe acts and improper conduct to appropriate administrators
- Remain alert to student needs and interact appropriately
- Assist with medical procedures for students as instructed
- Assist students with entering and leaving school bus as needed
- Secure wheelchairs prior to movement of bus as instructed
- Secure safety harnesses/belts for students with special needs as instructed
- Maintain roster of students and seating chart as instructed
- Report all accidents and complete required applicable reports
- Assist in keeping bus clean
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required and instructed
- Report hazards along existing route
- Follow established safety protocols
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director or Associate Superintendent or Designee
Required Qualifications:
- Acceptable Criminal Background Check
- Complete training(s) with the school system for safety, security and compliance
- Complete all SPED training(s) required
- Must be able to demonstrate competence for assigned position
