Carpentry Teacher - CTAE
Lumpkin County Schools is now accepting applications for a carpentry teacher at Lumpkin County Schools for the 2025-2026 school year.
Position Summary: The Lumpkin County College & Career Academy Carpentry Instructor will provide instruction in selected areas of construction with a focus in carpentry and an overview of electrical and plumbing. Students in the Carpentry Program should gain the appropriate knowledge and skills in the related industries and be prepared for a career and/or post-secondary opportunities after high school graduation.
Essential Duties of the Position:
- Provides content-related and appropriate instruction based on state and local curriculum through a combination of classroom, laboratory, and co-curricular experiences as well as industry, collegial, and technical college collaboration;
- Provides community-based instruction and projects based on program guidelines and requirements in addition to local community and workforce needs;
- Co-sponsors the local chapter of SkillsUSA for the LC College & Career Academy;
- Manages and maintains program facilities and equipment;
- Adheres to all state and local guidelines required for the implementation of a successful, industry-certified program;
- Provides a positive classroom environment which promotes active learning in the subject area;
- Communicates responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, school and district leadership, and community members;
- Accounts for student attendance and punctuality;
- Follows all district, county, state and federal policies and procedures; and,
- Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities.
Additional Responsibilities of the Position:
- Attends school, district, and state-level professional learning activities as directed;
- Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent;
- Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conference, telephoning, and sending written communications;
- Integrates appropriate technology into classroom instruction;
- Avoids behaviors which detract from staff morale; and,
- Performs other duties as assigned by administration.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's Degree or higher from a GaPSC-approved institution in a construction-related field or a GaPSC-determined, equivalent field required.
- Certification / Licensure: Must hold a license in a construction-related field or GaPSC- determined equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of occupational work experience in the field of construction is preferred
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Proven instructional strategies in a classroom/lab environment;
- Classroom management skills;
- Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Working Conditions: Classroom / Lab Environment (non-air-conditioned lab space / outdoor lab space included)
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and carry 100 pounds with assistance;
- Ability to push or pull a maximum of 100 pounds independently;
- Demonstrate the various tasks and duties in construction: carpentry, electrical, masonry, and plumbing; and,
- Require manual labor to include frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects.
